The Road to Recovery

Team IRL Cycling will be held a charity virtual cycle on Sunday 13th December in aid of cancer support services in Ireland. Team IRL Cycling members took on various distances of a virtual cycle with the longest ride set at 200km.  We are asked our members on the cycle to raise money which is vital for our charity partners to exist. 2020 has been an unprecedented challenge for all charities as they struggle to make raise funds through normal channels. With over 4,000 members our hope was to be able to give back to our charity partners.

We achieved our target and surpassed it raising an amazing €5,500 for our charity partners the Friends of the Cancer Centre and the Irish Cancer Society

At some point in our lives we have all been touched by the effects of cancer. The charities we have selected are very close to our own hearts in Team Ireland Cycling, as Richie Sheerin, one of our key admin members is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. In March of 2018, Richie an active and fit runner, cyclist, and Gaelic football player was diagnosed with Myeloma, a bone marrow cancer. If you want to hear more of his story (click image of Richie above).

Live with Richie Sheerin

Richie Sheerin is one of the driving forces behind Team IRL Cycling, one of the largest online cycling communities in the world with over 4,000 members. Team Irl has over 1,000 registered Zwift riders putting it 6th in the world in terms of size.

But behind the scenes, Richie is undergoing a battle for life after being diagnosed with Myeloma in March 2018. Tonight we will chat about his road to recovery in real life and in the virtual world and will also launch a special Christmas Charity initiative.
